New Technology Eases Documentation Process

A documentation scanning system has implemented throughout Palos Community Hospital. The new technology is used to scan patient information at the point of registration, including photo identification cards, insurance cards, physician orders and consent forms.

The benefits of the electronically stored information include increased compliance with regulatory and insurance mandates by having required legal documents available. The new technology also eliminates the time and expense of copying, distributing, filing and storing patient information.

"The ability to scan and view these non-computerized documents brings efficiencies to staff throughout Palos," says Peggy Carroll, chief information officer. "This patient information is now readily available to authorized personnel in electronic medical record system."
