That’s why we are proud to announce that Palos Community Hospital is the recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from HealthGrades® for the seventh consecutive year. This prestigious honor from the nation’s leading independent health care ratings organization places Palos Community Hospital in the top five percent of hospitals based on clinical excellence. Palos was one of 268 hospitals in the country to receive this award in 2011, and one of only seven hospitals nationwide to receive it six years in a row.

The annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence Study analyzed patient outcomes at each of the nation’s 5,000 nonfederal hospitals. Facilities that receive the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence have the best outcomes in the country across a range of 26 procedures and treatments. On average, patients treated at HealthGrades Distinguished Hospitals have a 29 percent lower risk of inhospital mortality and a 9 percent lower risk of inhospital complications. 

For the 7th year in a row, Palos Community Hospital also received HealthGrades Patient Safety Excellence Award. Palos ranks among the top 238 hospitals in the country for patient safety. This distinction places Palos Community Hospital in an elite group of only 20 hospitals in the country, and the only hospital in Illinois, to receive both the Patient Safety Excellence Award and the Distinguished Hospital Award for overall Clinical Excellence five years in a row.

Palos also took top honors for overall patient care in Cardiac, Gastrointestinal and Women’s Health services, and in Pulmonary Services for 2011. Across a total of six specialities, Palos Community Hospital is ranked among the nation’s top 5 percent of hospitals. In these areas, Palos Community Hospital consistently outperforms 95 percent of all hospitals across the country.
