Palos Community Hospital to Host Lymphedema Presentation

Palos Community Hospital will host a free program focusing on lymphedema, a chronic swelling disorder that generally affects the arms and legs. While lymphedema can be a genetic disorder of unknown origin, it is commonly observed following the treatment of breast cancer. Without proper management, the condition can worsen, changing the appearance of the extremity and even increasing the risk of infection in the affected area. Participants at this presentation will gain insight on this condition including the various causes, diagnostic indicators, risks and management strategies.

The presentation will be led by Yasemin Ozcan, M.D., a physician board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and specialist in lymphedema, and Alicia Ferguson, physical therapist and certified lymphedema therapist. The program will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Palos Community Hospital, 12251 S. 80th Ave., Palos Heights. Registration is required, call (708) 226-2300.
