Dual Diagnosis or Co-Occurring Disorders

Our Behavioral Health Programs also treat patients who have both addiction issues and psychiatric diagnoses.

We work to stabilize the signs and symptoms of the psychiatric disorder while helping the patient move towards establishing a strong recovery program.

To do this, we provide education about the disorder and about recovery, give patients extensive practice at building recovery skills (such as dealing with triggers and cravings, learning refusal skills, and other cognitive and behavioral approaches), and help them to develop a reliance on relapse-prevention methods.

Among the many tools that we help the patient use include the following:

  • Abstinence-Based Recovery
  • Learning and Using Coping Skills to Manage Relapse
  • Powerful Motivational Techniques to Making Lifestyle Changes
  • Emphasis on Distorted Thinking and Self-Defeating Behaviors
  • Prescription Medication Education
  • Introduction of 12-step Programs and Community-Based Self-Help Groups
  • Family and Support System Involvement
  • Aligning Spiritual Values
  • Exercise, Nutrition and Effective Time Management
  • Individually Tailored Relapse-Prevention Plan
  • Psychiatric Referral Assistance
