Lactation Center and Boutique
Breastfeeding has been proven to have significant health benefits for your baby and you. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, breast milk is superior for infants. It provides your baby with balanced nutrition and protection against illness and is a loving, nurturing way to feed your baby. Breastfeeding allows you to bond with your baby, get back in shape while using the most convenient and least expensive way to feed an infant. At Palos Community Hospital, our lactation consultants are dedicated to helping you make the breastfeeding experience successful and rewarding.
Lactation Counseling & Support
Breastfeeding is a learned skill. At Palos, you will receive information, assistance, and a great deal of support from our International Board Certified lactation consultants who are also registered nurses. This guidance is available to you prior, during and after your stay with us. Lactation consultants are focused on the needs of the nursing couple and are committed to promoting positive breastfeeding experiences.
Prior to your delivery, take advantage of our Breastfeeding Basics class and learn about the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as infant positioning techniques, strategies for pumping and more.
After you give birth to your little one, the lactation consultant will see you daily offering instruction, assistance and guidance as you begin breastfeeding. The consultant will answer all of your questions as you prepare to take your baby home.
Ongoing Guidance
After you and baby go home, your lactation consultant will call you within one week to make sure breastfeeding is going smoothly. Lactation consultants are available by appointment to assist breastfeeding mothers after returning home.
Palos Community Hospital’s Nursing Mom’s Network offers continued support for those learning to breastfeed. In a nurturing environment, breastfeeding mothers share their experiences, and receive on going guidance and support from one of our lactation consultants. Babies are welcome.

Boutique
Our Lactation Boutique offers a wide variety products to help make your breastfeeding experience the best possible. Our lactation consultants are certified bra fitters and are extremely knowledgeable and arwill thoroughly answer your questions reagrding bras and breast pumps. The Boutique carries a vareity of maternity items, breastfeeding supplies and other essentials for moms-to-be and moms:

- Bra pads
- Milk storage solutions
- Medela pump replacement parts
Both retail and rental services are professionally guided and personalized to provide superior customer service and foster a lasting relationship with you.
