Conservative Care
Non-Operative Treatment Options
When initiating orthopaedic care, many patients
begin with Conservative (non-operative)
Care. Our conservative care team is staffed with physiatrists (physical
medicine and rehabilitation physicians) who begin with a complete health
history and physical examination to comprehensively assess you and determine
the most appropriate plan to diagnosis and treatment options, and work with you
to develop the most appropriate treatment to return you to a maximum level of
functioning as quickly as possible.
Before Surgery
A Unique Pre-Habilitation Program
If surgery is a consideration, our Pre-Habilitation program will help you
to achieve a maximum level of functioning before surgery, and then help you to
understand what to anticipate after surgery and give you exercises to prepare for
rehabilitation.
The Pre-operative
Education program gives you the ability to learn first-hand what to expect
before, during and after surgery. This class is taught by a licensed
professional registered nurse with extensive orthopaedic experience, a licensed
physical therapist with orthopaedic expertise, a licensed social worker who
will provide you with information regarding you home or rehabilitation options
after surgery, and a licensed professional registered nurse case manager who
will assist in streamlining your care during your hospitalization and make sure
that together, we make the most of your hospital stay.
Orthopaedic Surgery
When orthopaedic
surgery is indicated, quality care provided in a safe and comfortable
setting will help you return to an optimal level of functioning as quickly as
possible. At Palos
Community Hospital,
orthopaedic surgery is performed on an inpatient and outpatient basis, some
using minimally invasive techniques and the latest in surgical navigation. When
a stay in our inpatient unit required, you will recover post-operatively in our
dedicated orthopaedic unit with out experienced orthopaedic care team. This
clinical team is specially educated and skilled in orthopaedic care, recovery
and rehabilitation.
