Volunteer at Palos
The volunteer program provides helpful services to the hospital's staff, patients and visitors. Our volunteers reflect and contribute to the hospital's mission by caring for patients' needs, being compassionate and by providing quality services. Caring volunteers help with the comfort needs of patients, freeing the nursing staff to attend to patients' medical needs. They are extremely important to overall patient care.
Palos Community Hospital has approximately 400 volunteers who are involved in a variety of services. Here are examples of some of the volunteer services we provide:

High school students who are at least 15 years old are encouraged to apply for admittance into the Student Volunteer Program. This program is for 14 weeks, in which the student is scheduled one three-hour shift per week. Students missing more than two times during this 14-week program are dismissed from the program.
Students displaying a positive attitude, good work ethic and a desire to help others must attend a three-hour orientation before they are allowed to volunteer. Some of the duties assigned to the volunteers include assisting the nursing staff, patient transport, delivering flowers and helping out in the hospital Gift Shop.
